Mara + Kevin: Married!

Mara and Kevin were married on a beautiful autumn day at Mara's family house in Rehoboth Beach, DE. As her sister Susanne showed me around, she aptly described the site as every photographer's dream as natural light streamed in from windows and skylights. Vows were recited in the back yard under sunny skies, with boats passing and passengers waving from the marsh. Afterwards, the party moved on to the beach, much to the relief of the family. Although I did not get to see the site in the morning, I have been told that the entire tent was under water at 11am, as high tide sought to defeat their chances of an oceanfront party. However, the team of organizers, with the help of Make My Day event planners Leanne and Casey, banded together and had everything perfectly dry and set up by the time the guests arrived at 7pm that evening. You'd never have known there was a major problem just a few hours earlier, as paper laterns glowed from the ceiling and Nage waiters passed around with perfectly arranged plates of food. The evening was complimented with a perfect sunset and dancing into the night.

Mara and Kevin, thank you for allowing me to work with you on your beautiful wedding at the beach!

Boudoir Marathon??

I've recently had a few inquiries for boudoir sessions and I was wondering if there might some interest in a boudoir marathon in the DC area at the end of October/early November. Even though it seems late, some products would still be available for Christmas delivery, and this would make a great gift for your husband, fiance or even yourself! This is also a great time to think about gifts for Valentine's Day and spring weddings!

Helen + Andrew: Married!

I am happy to say that with this blog post, I have caught up with blogging all of my weddings so far this year! And what a great wedding it was! Helen and Andrew were married in an outdoor ceremony at the beautiful estate of the Williamsburg Winery in Williamsburg, VA. The site was stunning and offered so many nooks and cool locations for portraits...including the wine cellar itself! Though this was my first trip to this vineyard, I would highly recommend it for the site itself and the great staff. I also have to mention that Helen and Andy's menu included a mashed potato bar, which was my first, but I hope not the last! YUM! But this cool addition to the menu was only a precusor to the awesome party that followed, as dancing continued well into the night!

Helen and Andy, thanks for having me and best wishes for much happiness in your future!

Maria + Patrick: Married!

It was great to see Maria, Patrick and their family again at the end of August! You may remember that I met them on New Year's Day for an engagement session with a few quick family portraits while Maria's grandmother was visiting from Venezuela. The day started at the Wyndham Old Town, where Maria got ready with her parents and bridesmaids. Before long, they all loaded into the limo and headed to St. Ignatius in Georgetown where Patrick and the guys were waiting for the ceremony to begin. After a beautiful ceremony, lit by the afternoon sun streaming in the windows, we took a few portraits before the party began at the Athenaeum, a cool art space back in Old Town Alexandria, where tables were beautifully decorated with the handiwork of Growing Wild. I should also note, that when a wedding day schedule calls for a "hora loca" at the end of the reception, they aren't kidding! That was one crazy hour of dancing, complete with hats, beads, leis, masks and every party song known in both the English and Spanish languages, all played in 30 second snippits for an entire 60 minute period. I have no idea how Maria, Patrick and their guests were still standing at the end! Regardless, it was one of the most intense work-outs I've ever had at a wedding, and a great experience for which I extend my thanks!!

Oops! It seems that the hook on the top of Maria's dress snapped just after I took the photo above. But no worries! Maria's good friend, and day-of coordinator extraordinaire, Marcello, was not far behind with needle and thread to sew her back in! If he ever goes into the wedding planning business, I will definitely be one of the first to recommend him. He was awesome!

Courtney + Tom: Married!

Courtney and Tom were married a few weeks ago at Vale United Methodist Church in Oakton, VA. The church was simply adorable, with beautiful light streaming in from windows on both sides. And Courtney was absolutely stunning as she stood near a window awaiting the ceremony. I had a hard time not photographing her endlessly as she stood there. After a few portraits on the church grounds with Tom, we moved on to Hidden Creek Country Club in Reston, where a private golf cart was waiting for us to carry us to the course for a few more. Hidden Creek has recently undergone a renovation and is working hard to create a terrific atmosphere for couples and their guests to celebrate. And luckily for Courtney and Tom, they had Laura Auer from Soiree Special Events to oversee the day and make sure that was the case! The party kicked off at 7pm with the first dance, which just happened to be one of the best choreographed numbers I have seen so far. Great job to both of you!

Eileen + Ken: Married!

Eileen and Ken contacted me to photograph their August wedding just a few short weeks ago, and I am so glad they did. Theirs was an intimate ceremony and high-tea reception at Tregaron at the Washington International School. I was excited at our meeting when they told me that they wanted to see each other before the ceremony, as it gave them a chance to have an intimate moment together (which allowed for lovely, candid photos of them together), then gave us plenty of time for portraits. Thank you again for having me (and Canna!) as part of your day!

Veronica + Justin: Married!

A few weeks ago, Veronica and Justin were married on a gorgeous August Saturday in Sterling. When I arrived at Veronica's parents' home, I was thrilled to find beautiful light everywhere I looked. We didn't spend much time there though, or at the church once the ceremony was over however, because these two had other plans for our time together. I was so excited to have the opportunity to make the trip out to Leesburg with them and their bridal party right after they said their vows for a fabulous hour of fun portrait opportunities...but not before a quick pit-stop to pick up some refreshments on they way ;)

Kelly + Tyler: Married!

Kelly and Tyler were married at the beginning of August in a gorgeous outdoor ceremony at the Westfields Marriot in Chantilly, VA. Fortunately, the weather held off just long enough to allow them to be married in the early evening light before the sky opened up and ushered us back inside to avoid the torrential rainstorm complete with hail. However, the weather did not deter us from taking time to capture a few great portraits inside the venue. Kelly and Tyler, thanks for being such great models, and I can't wait for our day-after session later this fall!!

Things have been a bit crazy over here, and I know I've been neglecting my blog, but I am determined to rectify that problem in short order! I've had some terrific weddings over the last few weeks and I can't wait to share them with you!

First up is Kristin and Josh who were married in late July at the Thomas Birkby House in Leesburg. The weather was absolutely gorgeous for their blended Catholic and Jewish outdoor ceremony. And it set the perfect backdrops for a few fun portraits before the partying and celebration commenced.

Everett + Susanne: Married!

Everett and Susanne were married last month, surrounded by the loving support of family and friends. The day started at Teasism in Dupont Circle, then moved on to the Hotel Palomar, where Susanne got ready. For anyone looking for a funky space to prepare for your wedding day, this is it! They then moved on to the Friends Meeting Place, for their Quaker-style ceremony. It was an beautiful and intimate ceremony, with relatives and friends standing up to pay tribute to the couple. Finally, the reception concluded the day with a terrific buffet, catered by Lebanese Taverna at the American News Women's Club.

Becky + Joe: Married!

After I returned from Africa, I joined Becky and Joe for their wedding, which was also a celebration of Joe's return from Africa where he was stationed with the Army. And the high spirits of everyone involved definitely showed how happy they were not only that he had returned safely, but also that he and Becky would now be able to be together! In fact, the liveliness extended all the way to the speeches, where Joe's entire family serenaded the couple with custom lyrics to the tune of the 'Camp Grenada' song. It was great to see such a unique and personal twist on a common tradition. And it also served as a glimpse of how much fun the rest of the reception would be!

This is definitely one of my favorite bouquet catches yet! I had to include the whole series because her expressions are just so great!

Joe - gettin low, low, low, low!

Kruger National Park

During the second week of my trip, Canna and I drove up to Sabie to her family's mountain home and used it as our base to visit Kruger Park. We were up before dawn on our quest to see the animals in their natural habitat, and though it seemed that they were not awake as early as we were, we still enjoyed driving the reserve, with eyes peeled for the next group of wildlife waiting to have their photo taken.

First up, a bit of scenery from the park:

The clan of elephants was one of my favorite sightings of the day. The group we saw had over a dozen elephants, of all ages. I have to admit that I was a bit nervous when one stood in the middle of the road, facing our car head on, making a sound that only a giant African elephant could make.

I couldn't help but laugh at this little guy. First, he stole that apple he is eating right from the picnic lunch of other visitors. Then, he looked soo guilty about it!

It was well after lunch when we finally sighted our first giraffe and I was so excited.....so excited in fact that I managed to drag a 2.5 foot wooden giraffe carving all the way home with me.

I know that a zebra's stripes are supposed to help disguise them, but I don't think it's working very well. Especially when one decided to come so close to the road, that I could have petted him out of the window if I didn't fear him confusing my hand for dinner.

I was glad that the buffalo didn't get as close as the zebra.

Cape Town, South Africa

Sorry that I have been a bit behind in posting images from my vacation! I seem to have wandered into full-vacation mode as my trip progressed, and while I took photos, I only seemed to log on to my computer long enough to answer emails.

The images in this post were taken in Cape Town. This first one is from the same sunset as the last post, just on the other side of the road. Cape Town as some of the most incredible skies I have ever seen. It truly is a city where, if you don't like the weather at the moment, just wait five minutes and it will change. While it can make planning a bit difficult, it really makes for the most incredible skies and sunsets. I looked forward to the cloud patterns each day I was down there.

The next several images were from Boulder (kinda obvious where the name comes from, huh?) where I made Canna take me so that I could see South African penguins!

This sign made me laugh....especially when you look at the photo of the baby below. He certainly doesn't *look* dangerous. But I was reminded not to get too secure. They usually sit at the side of the road and have no hesitation to come up to the car and aggressively take anything you happen to be holding.

After visiting Boulder, we continued our drive south to Cape Point. This is the southern most point in the country, and the place where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. This sign was posted to show visitors how far they were from home.

This local climbed over the railing, and I think I held my breath the entire time he sat there, hoping he wouldn't fall.

On to the harbor. The seagulls will take french fries (or chips as they are know in SA) right out of your hand.

This is Table Mountain. It is called as much because the top of it is flat. When clouds decend on to the mountain, they call it the 'table cloth.' This was the most clear sight I had of the mountain while I was in Cape Town. The clouds are more often very low and dense.

I just wanted to let everyone who might be checking in over the next two weeks that I will be on vacation (and out of the country) from June 24 through July 9. I will not have access to a telephone while I am away, however I will have intermitent internet access (for some reason, they don't have wifi in the wilderness regions of South Africa amongst the lions, hippos, elephants and zebras ;-) But feel free to email me with any questions you might have and I will be sure to get back to you as soon as I am connected again. Sarah + Chris: Married!

On Saturday, Sarah and Chris were married in DC on a gorgeous summer day. Sarah spent time getting ready with her (fabulous!) bridesmaids at the Hotel Lombardy on Pennsylvania Ave. This is a funky hotel with lots of character that I would highly recommend for good light and neat places to take a few photos. After a ceremony in Georgetown, the party moved back to the Monroe House at the Arts Club of Washington. This was another great space with terrific character (not to mention an awesome caterer!) Their band kept the dance floor moving as the night set in to cooler summer breezes.

Thanks guys (Sarah, Chris, bridal party and family!) for making me feel so welcome! I hope you have a wonderful time on your honeymoon!

End Note: I really thought Sarah's grandmother was beautiful on Saturday. She was so kind to let me take her picture :)

Lauren + Lee: Married!

It's weddings like Lauren and Lee's that demostrate exactly why I love this job so much. From the moment I arrived in Canton, PA (after a five hour drive from Northern Virgina), I was greated with huge hugs from their family at the local bar where they met. From that instant, and throughout the weekend, I felt more like an invited guest than a hired vendor. And like any guest, I had a terrific time.

After spending the morning in the salon she booked for private time with her bridesmaids, she looked every part the princess as she put on her gown. You'd never know she was a self-proclaimed tom-boy, in her ruffled gown, tiara and radiant (i.e. contagious!) smile. The ceremony was held at her parents' bed and breakfast, Rock Girt, a gorgeous English style cottage nestled in the mountains with a perfect lake backdrop. And it reflected the personal touches indicitive of their personalities, with the reading of a poem written by Lee, personal vows and a song sung by the bridal party.

When it came time for photo ops after the ceremony, I think it took every bit of restraint this couple could muster not to jump in the lake. As you look at the images below, I am sure you will be able to find the one that caused Mrs. Schoonover to yell, "Lauren Rae, don't you dare!" Meanwhile, the bridal party piled themselves into a pyramid, at the suggestion of my second photographer, Mark Gardner.

And the celebration continued well into the night. As I finally departed at 3:00am, guests and bridal party made their way back to the lake in the darkness to find the tents where they would be camping out for the remainder of the evening.

Lauren and Lee, thank you so much for inviting me to spend such a great celebration with you. Mark and I truly enjoyed working with both of you and wish you a lifetime of happiness.

End note: I received a request from the parents to include a photo of the photographers. And since Mark and I were having such a great time, we couldn't help but oblige :) Thanks for taking it, Angie!

Diana + Jonathan: Married!

Diana and Jonathan held their long awaited wedding at Strathmore Hall in Rockville two weeks ago under cloudless skies...almost. When we started getting ready for their day, the sun was blazing and the thermostat on my car read 104F. But they took it entirely in stride and I did not hear a single complaint out of either of them or their guests. Diana looked gorgeous in the 2nd gown she purchased for the event while I don't think I ever saw the smile leave Jonathan's face. Not even when the sky opened up and POURED down with rain on their dinner tent just outside the mansion, or when the power temporarily went out for the second time that day.

It was a joy to work with both of you on your stunning event and I hope you had a terrific time in the Caribbean!

Busy Season!

First, I want to say thank-you to all of the terrific couples that I have worked with so far this season! I've been wonderfully busy filling my weekends with people in love. It just doesn't get any better than that! I'm a bit behind on my blogging, but soon to come, I have Jonathan and Diana's gorgeous event at Strathmore Hall in Rockville, and I am about to hit the road headed north to Canton, PA for the small town wedding of Lauren and Lee. And next weekend, Sarah and Chris tie the knot in DC just before I catch a plane for a much needed vacation to visit my best friend in South Africa (with a short stop to visit my good friend Mary in London)! I'm soo excited and can't wait to see them, and the lions, cheetahs, zebras, elephants....

Also, for any brides that might be looking for a photographer this fall, I still have a few open dates in September, November and December and I'd love to hear from you! I'm also in the process of meeting with couples for their 2009 weddings and I'm looking forward to many beautiful events next year. Christina + Vincent: Married!

Christina and Vincent were referred to me last fall by the lovely and talented Laura Auer of Soiree Special Events. She coordinated a beautiful event at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, with the help of DaVinci Florist, R & R Catering, Cakes by Design, John Farr Lighting and entertainment provided by The Biscaynes. I've been to the Torpedo Factory many times in the past, but never before have I seen it looking so beautiful. As you can see below, professional lighting really can make all the difference and John Farr created magic in a wonderland that DaVinci's provided. I was so impressed by all of the details that this will be my longest post to date!

This was my first event with Laura, and little did we know that our initial event together would be a bonding one. During the middle of our formal photo session, Christina, Vincent and I were trapped in the boxwood garden near Hollin Hall during a sudden downpour. Laura had to make two trips through slanting rain and hail to rescue us and my equipment. By the time we made it to the break between the ceremony and reception, she and I were soaked above the knee and had to make a quick Gap run for pants to finish off the day...just in time for the sun to come out!

Stacy + Marc: Married!

Agneta + Roman: Day After (sort of)

Last week, I finally met up with Agneta and Roman for a portrait session after being rained out on several previous attempts. I photographed their wedding back in January and we wanted to wait for warmer weather to take their "engagement session" photos. The wait was worth it and the sun was shining in a cloudless sky. And it must have put Roman in a good mood, because he indulged my whims and Agneta's pleading and joined us as we *delicately* scaled a barbed wire fence to use a giant field by their house. Thanks for trusting me and for dinner! I look forward to seeing you both again soon!

Sarah + Chris: Engaged!

Sarah, Chris and I met by the Memorials last weekend to fit in a quick engagement session before their wedding at the end of this month. And I was amazed at how beautiful Sarah's eyes were each time I looked through the camera. She and Chris were adorable as they laughed at each other throughout my attempts to pose them. I can't wait to work with them again on the 21st!

Theresa + David: Engaged!

Theresa and David met at Georgetown University on the first day of the freshman year. Now, as they both graduate this year, they are in the midst of planning their November wedding. To celebrate their college years together, the location of their engagement and their graduation, we felt that the campus was a perfect location to take their engagement photos. It was great to share some of their special spots with them!

Theresa and David also showed me this seal as we were walking around campus and asked me to take a photo of them walking on it. It is a Georgetown Univ. tradition that you cannot step on it until after you have received your diploma which they did this spring!

Jen + Ajo: Married!

On Saturday, Jen and Ajo celebrated their wedding in Silver Spring surrounded by family and friends. I was so excited for their day, in particular because the weather was simply perfect. And Argyle Country Club was a terrific venue to capture this gorgeous couple. They celebrated their vows in a Christian Indian ceremony where Jen wore a traditional western gown, however halfway through the reception, she changed into a stunning purple sari that was blessed during the ceremony and presented to her by Ajo and his family. You will also notice the purple thread she wore around her neck during the photos. This thread was from the sari and held a pendent, called the Taali, or leaf shaped gold pendant with a cross sealed on it, which was also given to her during the ceremony.

I truly enjoyed photographing their wedding, and had such a hard time narrowing down my favorites for the blog. I can't wait to begin working on their album!!

Tunisha + Anthony: Married!

On Mother's Day, I took a drive down to Newport News to photograph the marriage of Tunisha and Anthony at the Omni Newport News. Despite the fact that we had never met, Tunisha greeted me with a huge hug as soon as she arrived and I knew it was going to be a great day. Anthony and I were able to sneak outside with the guys just before the sky opened up and showered us with yet another rainy spring weekend, but the impending clouds made for a really cool background in their photos.

The smiles these two shared for the evening made the drive so worth is for me and I also want to thank their family and friends for making me feel so welcome during the reception. I wish you all the best and a lifetime of luck and happiness!!

Everett + Susanne: Engaged!

Last Saturday, I joined Everett and Susanne at the Capital for their engagement pictures. Since I had two weddings in addition to their portraits last weekend, I've been a bit slow in posting on the blog. But I couldn't help but laugh when I received this message from them this afternoon:

"We know you are busy, but I can't resist asking how the engagement photos are coming. Any ETA? I can ask Susanne to write up an algorithm, but I'm pretty sure that your busyness of schedule is directly proportional with our excitement at mooning over pictures of ourselves. -Ev"

As I promised, here are a few to ease your excitement. Susanne, congrats again on the completion of your Ph.D. and I will see you in July!!

Trish + Scott: MARRIED

Tricia and Scott were married last Friday at Herrington on the Bay in Rose Haven, MD. Although they had planned to be married on the water at sunset, the weather didn't seem to want to cooperate. The rain didn't dampen their spirits any though, and I think I may have even been more disappointed that the ceremony wasn't be outside than they were!

I hope you are enjoying your honeymoon in Hawaii and I hope to see you around the neighborhood when you get back!

Lauren + Lee: Engaged!

Over the weekend, Lauren and Lee drove all the way down from Canton, PA to hang out with me and take some engagement photos. Despite the rain, we had a great time taking advantage of the urban scenery that Old Town Alexandria has to offer. They were such a fun couple to work with and they had me laughing more times than I could count. I can't wait to meet the whole town of Canton this June at their wedding. See you both in a few weeks!

Christina + Adrian: Married!

If rain on a wedding day means good luck for the couple, Christina and Adrian will have good fortune forever. Despite our hopes for an outdoor ceremony, their wedding at Glenview Mansion in Rockville was a bit of a washout. They did not let it dampen their moods, however and they had a beautiful day in this historic house. I enjoyed highlighting the lovely arrangements that Christina created on her own. In light of the rain, we took full advantage of the gorgeous architecture inside with great results.

I recently received this note from Christina, that I just have to share....

Hey heather,

I just wanted to write you a personal note from Adrian and I...granted the pictures haven't come out yet, I'm sure they will be beautiful given the thought you put into each and every one. Adrian loved how candid you were, how you let us have our wedding yet still take the time to get some real key important photos with family. You really listened to us and helped us make our wedding spectacular for everyone. I wanted to attach a photo one of my friends took... you really became one of my bridesmaids at a few points :)

Liz + Jed: Married!

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of working for Kate Triano and her lovely couple Liz and Jed on their wedding day at Rust Manor in Leesburg. The venue had the most beautiful rooms with gorgeous light and I would highly recommend it as a gorgeous ceremony and reception location. The reception was done in a wine theme in preparation for Liz and Jed's big move to Napa Valley. Best of luck to them both! Sarah + Josh: A Kansas City Wedding

A few weekends ago, I took a weekend off to head out to Kansas to visit my good friend and awesome photographer, Jason Domingues and his family. Being a photographer, I think it's fun to use time off to work with friends, so of course I had to take him up on the chance to shoot a wedding with him. Jason's been one of my biggest inspirations since I began wedding photography and it was an absolute pleasure to have this chance to see him in action.

Despite the weekend being 70 degrees and sunny in DC, I landed in KS at the same time as a storm front came in. So our great couple, Sarah and Josh, as well as their bridal party, Jason and I spent the day braving 30 degrees, wind and SNOW in the middle of APRIL! But we had a great time and I can't wait to go back....or have Jason come out here and shoot a wedding with me (hint, hint!)

Jessica & Nick: Married!

On the first weekend in April, Jessica and Nick held a lovely ceremony at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens. Despite the forecast for rain, the weather was sunny and warm. The ceremony was so emotional and I don't think there were many dry eyes to be seen. I was also extremely impressed with the seamstress talents of Jessica's mom! She made all of the bridesmaids dresses and the bridal gown from silk Jessica's father picked out and brought back with him from China. The colors were gorgeous!

Jackie & Jeremy: Married!

Jackie and Jeremy were married last month on the Potomac River aboard the Capital Elite. I was excited for their wedding not only because this was my first wedding on a boat, but also because this couple lives right next door to my family! Gen + Dan = Engaged!

Yesterday, I had a terrific afternoon with Gen and Dan in preparation for their April wedding. We wandered around Georgetown for a bit before we stopped to refuel with pizza and Belgian beer at Pizzeria Paradiso. And it was only after spending over 3 hours together did Dan and I realize that we had gone to the same high school, only one year apart! While my colleague, Joe will be their photographer for their wedding day, I hope to get a chance to stop by and see them before their ceremony. About two weeks ago, I went to hang out with Massachusetts photographer, Rebekah Kay during the reception of her friends Matti and RJ at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA. The party was fabulous, and guests from eight years old to eighty didn't leave the dance floor all night!! And much of this was due to the great job D.J. Craig Nalley of Nalley Enterprises, Inc. (301.460.3605) did in keeping the music going strong.

I was recently chided by a friend (and admitted blog-stalker) that I haven't updated my blog in a while. So, just for you Becca, here are some portraits that I took in July during an event that I organized with fellow photographers Jason Domingues and Mark Eric. The event took place in Atlantic City, NJ with 11 brides (a few grooms) and 50 photographers seeking to think outside the box and create art that didn't worry about getting the wedding dress a little bit dirty. Although this type of photography is frequently referred to as 'Trash-the-Dress', it's not really about destroying the gown as much as creating truly memorable images without the hesitation of harming the dress that usually accompanies the wedding day. In the case of our 11 brides, each of the dresses cleaned right up with a bit of help from their local dry cleaners. Enjoy!

I first met Robin and Rae on Saturday morning and within 24 hours we were taking their engagement photos! We spent one of the first cool mornings this fall enjoying the changing colors of the leaves as we walked around the park. Last weekend, I headed up to NYC for the PhotoPlus Expo photography tradeshow where I had a great time hanging out with friends, researching new products and updating my equipment. Unfortunately, I was so busy having fun, that I neglected to take out my camera!! But I did have someone take a quick shot of me with my friend Jason Domingues from Kansas City. Mark and I headed to The Oaks on the Eastern Shore to photograph the incredibly fun wedding of Christine and Andrew. After 6 years of dating, they tied the knot and started their family, surrounded by a terrific crowd of loved ones who partied until the very last second the dj would allow. (The dj was terrific, btw, and I HIGHLY recommend DJ Brian McDaniel for a great party!)

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of photographing an absolutely wonderful couple, Melinda and Brian, as they were married on the bay in Ocean City, MD. The weather was phenomenal, and I had a wonderful day photographing them with their family and friends.

Melinda has the most remarkable eyes I have ever seen.

Today I went to the National Zoo with my friend Mike, who, although he technically *lives* and grew up here, only spends about 8 weeks of the year in DC. It was great to see him, and we had a great time. The zoo was a bit of a let-down though. Both Mike and I have been to South Africa where you see all of the wild animals running free and the humans have to stay penned up in their vehicles for safety. This means you can get really close to lions, elephants, giraffe, cheetahs, etc. And it seems that there was more construction at the zoo than animals. But we still enjoyed walking around taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful weather. Here are a few of my favorite furry friends.

Back from Vacation!

I just finished the final touches on my lucky 07/07/07 wedding in Jamaica. Kristen and Greg have been together ....or at least best friends....since their freshman year in high school; that's almost 14 years!!! When they finally announced their engagement in February of 2005, most of their friends and family thought it was about time! Here are a few highlights from their 5-days filled with family and friends, sunshine and sand...

This is what happens when you put seven crazy siblings and their wives together on a tropical island in formal wear!

Colors of India

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of shooting an Indian wedding with Kate Triano. It was my first, and I must say it was absolutely gorgeous! The colors were amazing and there were so many friends and relatives there to celebrate with them. And I can't neglect to mention the food! Anyone who knows me well can attest to the fact that I could eat curry on a daily basis and never grow bored. Here are a few photographs from the event.

HELLO (TAKE TWO!)

So, after a bit of delay, I think I am actually REALLY ready to begin. So "Hi!" and "Welcome!" I've been busy making new friends, learning new skills and taking lots of new pictures. Many of them can be seen on the website I just launched last week, http://www.heatherzphotography.com/. I'm really excited about it and hope that lots of people will visit (and share with anyone you know who might be looking for a photographer!) Shortly, I will be posting pictures of events I have been editing over the last few weeks, so stay tuned.

But in the meantime, I'd like to say a quick "Thank you!" to a few people who have helped me along the road recently including Kerry Gastley, Dave Schwartz, Don Harper and Kate Triano for opening their businesses to me and allowing me to follow them around with my camera and learn from trial and error, as well as taking in many of the lessons they have learned along their roads to becoming pros. They allowed me to discover and experience something that I truly love to do, and now hope to share with you!

Welcome to my blog! This is a completely new concept to me (I never even kept a diary as a kid), so I hope you'll bear with me as I stumble through this new concept to share my love of photography with you. I've been working on quite a few projects over the last few months, so I hope to recap the fun I've had and share the photos I've taken with you, as well as keeping up with my upcoming activities.
